Top 10 Countries With Highest 4G LTE Speed In The World

Short Bytes: The 4G technology based on the LTE standard has reached most parts of the world. OpenSignal has released the State of LTE report for November 2016. Singapore tops the charts of the top 10 countries with the highest average 4G LTE speed.

The State of LTE report for November 2016 has been published by OpenSignal. The report gives us a detailed idea about the 4G LTE’s worldwide reach.

LTE – a standard for high-bandwidth wireless communication on mobile devices – is considered as a commercially deployed form of the 4th generation wireless mobile communications technology. However, it doesn’t enable even half of the peak data speed – 1Gbit/s for stationary users and 100 Mbit/s for mobile users – technically specified for the 4G technology.

4G and LTE (Long Term Evolution) are two different terms which are jointly used by various companies to promote their LTE networks.

A newer standard, LTE Advanced (LTE-A), has been brought into existence because the first release version of LTE does not fulfill the IMT-Advanced Specifications set forth by the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).

Below is a list of the top 10 countries with the highest 4G LTE speed in the world
  1. Singapore      45.86 Mbps
  2. South Korea  45.77 Mbps
  3. Hungary        40.61 Mbps
  4. Romania        35.61 Mbps
  5. New Zealand 34.94 Mbps
  6. Bulgaria         34.26 Mbps
  7. Netherlands    33.84 Mbps
  8. Australia        32.50 Mbps
  9.  Luxembourg 31.70 Mbps
  10. Iceland           31.39 Mbps
Singapore tops the chart with highest 4G Speed and outperforms South Korea by a thin margin. However, South Korea’s 4G network is better in terms of 4G availability. A mobile user in South Korea has a success rate of 95.7% that he/she would be able to connect to a 4G network.
The State of LTE report also tells about the LTE speeds at the world level. The global 4G LTE speeds average out at 17.4 Mbps.

Having a greater number in terms of 4G speed is not the only thing required to create a good and reliable 4G LTE ecosystem. There are several countries which are up in the LTE speed chart but don’t perform well in terms of availability.

It’s good to see that LTE speeds are about to cross the 50 Mbps mark. Hopefully, the LTE Advanced will push it closer to the Gigabit speed mark.

Here are the world map illustrations for 4G LTE speed and availability for different countries.

You can see, countries like India, where the 4G LTE availability is as high as 71%, lag behind considerably when we talk about speed. For India, the 4G LTE speed is just 6.39 Mbps. Similar is the case of the US – the early adopters of the LTE technology. Even though the US has better numbers than India, the 4G availability for the US is 81.3% while the average speed is 13.95 Mbps. The reverse is also true in the case of some countries, like Denmark, having high speed but less availability of 4G LTE.
